Billy Price retired after having surgery to remove a blood clot.
Billy Price, a veteran NFL center and first round draft pick in 2018, announced his retirement on social media this weekend after revealing that he underwent emergency surgery last month to remove a blood clot.

The 29-year-old pro posted the announcement on his Instagram. He said he suffered "an unprovoked pulmonary embolism," and decided to retire because of the risk of internal bleeding.

"In the blink of an eye, everything can be taken away," Price said in the caption of his post. "In the blink of an eye, everything can be taken away," Price said in the caption of his post.

"On April 24th I had emergency pulmonary embolism surgery to remove a saddle clot that was entering both of my lungs. As a healthy 29-year-old, an unprovoked pulmonary embolism with no further medical explanation is terrifying. I am truly thankful to be alive today. Unfortunately, I will be retiring from the NFL as the risk of an internal bleed while on blood thinners creates tremendous risk."

Price was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 21st pick in the 2018 draft. He played there for three seasons before being traded to the New York Giants in 2021. He played in 69 career games, including 45 starts.
While he was never better than average in the NFL, the dude made a decent bit of cash in his short career with earnings over $12m.

The time to make mistakes is in the offseason, particularly for rookies.

If I were a Bears fan, this would not concern me much.

This wouldn't concern me at all. Not in May, practicing in shorts at what's likely a little more than a walk through pace.

See? There are other teams and players with absences during OTAs for contract reasons. Not the end of the world.

I’m pretty sure you were the only one worrried that our dude was, “holding out” during voluntary OTAs.

My only question is why is all but $8mil of his deal guaranteed. Well deserved though. For those wondering if we're going to re-up Godwin, this is the going rate for #2 WRs

I don't think that's worth it at all, paying a #2 big bucks. If he can't take over and be the true #1 guy, he shouldn't get paid like one. Waddle is a unique case because he probably could be the #1 guy if needed, but Godwin is a #2 WR.

Only mentioned that because not too long ago if you recall, people mentioned Godwin as a "1B" to Evans' "1A" status. I'd even say the Bucs felt that way as evidence of them giving him a $20mil/year deal at a time where that was the going rate for #1 receivers.

That seems to be the going rate for 1k pseudo #1 WRs. I can see why Tee mad.

Also, Godwin was the #2 WR in the NFL the year prior to being our SB champion slot workhorse. He was every bit worth his deal and role prior to the dirty saints going low. Life be like that, not every career is storybook.

ACL’s are fairly routine at this point. I don’t understand the connection.

He is getting fairly long in the tooth. But I think that’s in part due to his physical play style. the fact that he embraces contact on every single possession.

That's not talked about enough. He takes on more contact that most WRs and it takes its toll. 28 might not be "old" but he's definitely getting any younger. This will be his 8th season here already. I'd expect OBP wants to get younger and less expensive at WR. Just have to find the right guys.

Either way, if you had to pick who was the #2WR behind MT that year do you prefer 13 more catches for 61 more yards on the year or 3 more TDs?

I take the latter.
Hence, Godwin was the #2 WR in the 2019.
