It took one team signing a QB in the South for us to no longer have the "best".
Saints are *now the favorites to win the division.

I'm not scared of a QB, who in college, completed less than 55% of his passes and had a less than 2/1 TD/INT ratio. I'm ecstatic if he's in the NFCS...just not on this team.

Carr is QB purgatory. Not concerned.

If bucs draft Richardson, we’ll be favorites in division
Right right?
Right right?

Had we signed Carr, I guarantee that people would've point to Matt Stafford's turnaround from Detroit to LA.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
I do expect him to blossom a bit now that he's out of that organization.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Matt Stafford went to an absolutely loaded rams team. With a very QB friendly coach who had Jared Goff competing in the superbowl.
Carr isnt getting any of that. The saints have a good defense and thats about it.
Sean Payton is gone and with that the offense that was great year in and year out.
I'm not saying its going to be a disaster but Its a safe bet to say they wont be the juggernaut that some people are acting like theyre going to be.

Just watching the news. Apparently the Ravens and Lamar still doesn’t agree on contracts 25 months..

Haha $105 mil all because of one season? Mistake by Seattle. Thank god we didn’t make that mistake.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Context as well. $105 over 3 years is just $35mil a year. It's not even the largest contract signed today. And I believe $35mil/year is middle of the pack in terms of what QBs are getting now a days.
Considering the season Geno had, this is a very good deal for both sides. Everyone came away happy here in Seattle.

Seattle had to this. And I’m almost never a “any team has to do anything” type of person.
Good for both sides.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
When you compare this deal with what Derek Carr got today, Geno will make significantly more in year 1 than Derek will ($52mil vs $30mil). In fact Geno makes almost as much in 1 year as Derek Carr will in 2, ($52mil vs $60mil). If this is how I think it's designed, Geno will be back at the negotiating table at the end of 2024 if things go accordingly at only 34 years old.

In his defense, Carr with a good defense isn't something we have seen before. If he can provide the Saints with middle of the road C-grade quarterbacking, they rightly could make a claim to the division.Obsolete wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 4:19 pm Matt Stafford went to an absolutely loaded rams team. I grew up in Raider and 49er country and my brother is a Raiders fan, so I have had a passing interest in Carr's career for awhile and have seen many of his games. I like Derek Carr and feel that he is generally underrated by the average NFL fan or pundit. And while I cannot in good conscience root for the Saints, I can certainly admire some of their individual players.
Good for him. And also, it puts Jameis out of a job, which I can't say I'm sorry to see.

Carr has major arm talent but has a reputation of being soft.
Curious if he can help resurrect Michael Thomas’s corpse.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Carr is a GOOD quarterback. The Saints probably just went from 7-10 with Jameis and Co. to 10-7 with Carr. That's not nothing, but it's also kind of...okay? Are they anywhere near the best in the league? No. Are they even in the top 3 teams in the NFC? No.
This continues to be my point of contention with the whole "The Saints beat the salary cap every year!" discussion. Yes, they always manage to turn a $200 million cap deficit into a few solid free agent moves. Where has it gotten them? They've been to the NFCCG once in 13 years, despite a HOF Coach and a HOF QB for most of it, and despite drafting well for the most part. They're rarely in on any actual top free agents, though Payton was good at maximizing the guys they did bring in. They've been "reloading" for well over a decade now and they've managed a bunch of division title banners in an often underwhelming division.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
I liken it to having a pair of 7’s in hold ‘em. You’ll beat some hands, but not the best ones. You’re “competing,” but not really…
Saints could take the division with this and additional moves.
To what end? Most everyone here knew the (division winner) Bucs were frauds and they had Tom Brady at QB.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Not picking on you Cheb, but when did this become the standard? I genuinely don't understand it. The two teams that just played in the Superbowl won brutal divisions and then went toe-to-toe with the best in their conference to reach that point. How many teams have ever won anything because they barely won a shitty division and frauded their way into the grown-ups table? The teams in the playoffs won't be shitty. We first-hand saw what happens when a fraud division winner plays an actual playoff caliber team in the playoffs. Anybody have warm memories of our triumphant division championship or that playoff "run?" No? Me neither. Being able to say we edged out the shitty Panthers? Gonna dine out on that the next time you see a Panthers fan? No? Why, because you'd sound like a chode, that's why!Cheb wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 9:11 pmIn his defense, Carr with a good defense isn't something we have seen before. You're a Superbowl contender or you're not. If you're not, being one of the 45% of the league that now makes the playoff is fucking worthless beyond - maybe - some confidence heading into the next year, when presumably you'll have taken steps to improve. Otherwise, you think Payton Manning looks longingly at all those AFC South Banners? Nobody. Cares.
You're in a position to win the Hardware.
Or you're making moves EXPLICITLY to win the Hardware in a future season.
Otherwise, you're wasting everyone's fucking time.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Very interested to know your take on all the Wildcard teams that have won it all with this take.
Most hated man in America.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Didn't say "Wildcard Teams."
I'm talking about the teams like us, last year, who had no business being in the playoffs but won terrible divisions because SOMEONE had to. The Washington team we beat in 2020 is another one. Occasionally you'll see one steal a wildcard game, like the Jags this year. But that's all it ever is.
If your sole qualification for making the playoffs is that you're a shitty team lucky enough to be in a division with three shittier teams, you should not mistake your season for a rousing success. You are not a contender because you're simply in the playoffs. You're an ass team in a league where there were too many playoff spots for too few worthwhile teams.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Thought so.
The 2007 & 2011 Giants fit your description. In fact if those 2 teams met that very specific standard you created, that would be an improvement. The 2007 Giants were the worst team to ever win it. 2011 Giants had a negative point differential. Neither team had any business making it but both won it all.
