Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
All of the top 4 QBs this year have major issues that a team is going to have to overlook when they draft them. There's rumblings of Anthony Richardson moving up draft boards to #1 overall, at least according to pff.
If I had the first pick of these four QBs it would be a tough decision imo. If Young was 6'2" 215 we're not even questioning it but he's not and he's going to be the smallest QB in the league and will have to be a complete anomaly in order to succeed.
There's going to be tons of fluctuation over the next few months on the QB position and a case can be made for any of them going #1 overall imo.
edit: Here's Stetson Bennett meeting Bryce Young at the end of the game, and Bennett has his own size concerns, and he even dwarfs Bryce Young.

It won't happen. But he's advocating hard for him. His current mock has Levis going 5 to Seattle. That's love.

Yea even the smaller QBs you think of recently, Drew Brees, Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Russell Wilson, they all had some meat on their bones or other aspects to compensate for their small size. Brees & Wilson had extremely large hands for being 5'11 dudes. Kyler is only 5'9 at best but he's built like a RB and weights about 210. Same with Baker.
That said, Bryce Young's size doesn't bother me at all and his measurements wouldn't change my opinion of him. I think he is the best QB in this class and will have a great career.

Russ gets too much hate. First, that coach sounds like a sour ***** for his "unnamed" quote.
After reading the article, nothing wrong with the Wilson office. It looked like it was all football and he spent tons of extra time there. Even if not an "official" office I promise you plenty of QBs have their corners or whatever in the facility.
It's all about the wins and losses. These haters would still be hating on all this if they were winning, but now it has a chance of catching fire because they can tie it to the losing.
As for these QBs- the more that go early the better. If we can get 4 QBs picked before us, oooooooo! Better chance a blue chip player falls to us. Richardson is going to be a hot ticket, it's a copy cat league. Hurts and Lamar are the hot flavors. People are coming back around to the idea of investing some time in developing the QB. The upside is worth it.
Richardson has his flaws, sure, but it's too much to say any of them are "unfixable". And if you can fix them, he 100% can be one of the leagues new super men. That's going to be enticing to a lot of organizations.

He’s just a fake douche with no personality and thinks he’s better than other people. Including his teammates.
He’s the opposite of Tom Brady. Who goes out of his way to introduce himself to rookie UDFA’s and is approachable by even fans.
That stuff matters for QBs.

He's always come off as a guy who tries to put his best face forward. Always be nice. Always say the right things. Always behave like the kids are watching. Which, sure, can be obnoxious at times.
Some people call that "fake", I guess because "real" people can get mean and angry. And yeah, you are putting up a front in a way, but so what? Maybe he's not genuinely like that but I think he genuinely WANTS to be like that, so that's how he behaves. Like people are hating because he.... acts nice?

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Hackett wasn't a good coach, but Wilson looked bad.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
I think it was a slew of issues. For starters it seem like both Wilson and Hackett didn't realize OTHER players need to be in on it too and it takes time to re-write how someone plays. Concepts were valued for more than installations. They lost Bolles and Jevonte, which were killer blows. And finally... I think Russ is old. This Brady/Arod idea of a 38 y/o QB is NOT the norm. He looked better in the end without Hackett and Sean has always been the guy who should've been coaching him... but it could be too little too late.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
There's a conversation to be had but people are sensitive and get very defensive and overall are incapable or unwilling to understand. I'll leave it there.Doctor wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 11:29 am He's always come off as a guy who tries to put his best face forward. Always be nice. Always say the right things. Jamesis Winston expected to be cut by the Saints .
And no, we are not going to sign him.

Winston should go to the Steelers or Colts

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
If I was making a list of QBs I do not want those two probably top it.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Sign Winston and Wentz, and trade a 7th for Lock.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
There's never been a bad report about Trask. OBP likes the kid. They are also adults and will always look behind door #2. Hence the word compete.
Also, we don't have to trade for Lock he's a FA.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
The level of the competition will depend on who they bring it, but he should be given a legitimate shot. Otherwise, what was the point?
Can't see them trying to sign Jimmy G., Carr, or Geno.

NFC South news
A big front office move: The Panthers are hiring Adrian Wilson as their new VP of Player Personnel, sources tell me and Tom Pelissero. The former co-interim GM with the Cardinals beefs up the Carolina front office.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Legit is a point of view. Lock was said to have been winning the job before covid let Geno run away with it.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 5:51 pm The level of the competition will depend on who they bring it, but he should be given a legitimate shot. Otherwise, what was the point?

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Doesn't bode well for their GM. Means the Panthers feel he needs more eyes and hands in decision making process of building their roster. This is also basically the next step to being a GM.

Imagine Todd Monken interviewing with the Ravens, and being told Lamar might leave, and he says, "That's okay, I've worked with a guy before..."

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
You're probably not wrong, but he's only been there since 2021. I'm not sure how many more people have to pay for Carolina's inability to find a QB in 2 years. Rhule and Joe Brady already did. It's not like the guy passed on a lot of great options, either. The jury is out on Fields and Mac Jones, and last year was Kenny Pickett...and frankly, IMHO both of those draft classes were solid based on early returns.
Of course, it could just be that the owner plain ol' doesn't think he's up to the job. Who knows?

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
If they bring in Lock for backup money it’s a legit competition. If they sign one of these other guys for starter money it’s not. Pretty simple.Doctor wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 9:34 pmLegit is a point of view. Lock, Heinecke, Darnold, Teddy, Keenum, Rudolph, Flacco, Dalton, Mike White, Kyle Allen, Gabbert (again), Cooper Rush, any other minor name I've forgotten = "Competition/Competition they're ticketed to lose to Trask because OBP wants to give him a shot."
LJ, Carr, Jimmy G, Daniel Jones, Geno = "There is no competition, this is our guy for 2023 (and possibly beyond.)
Mayfield, Wentz, Brissett - I could see going either way - either a true competition, or a competition OBP expects those guys to win because they don't believe in Trask. It would honestly depend on how much money one of those guys gets. We give one of those guys eight figures, it's to be our starter.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
And the Bucs won a SB with Brad Johnson at QB. A really good team doesn't need an all pro to be a winning team. They need good players at every position. Any team that signs Lamar Jackson at his asking price is going to make filling out the rest of the team with good players nearly impossible.
