College Prospects
Re: College Prospects
For one of our resident experts: Freshman Alabama WR Agiye Hall. Please discuss.
The only thing I have seen of him is tonight's championship game, but the guy has speed, huge catch radius, decent to plus hands, but above all - seemingly crazy body control. He's part cat, I think.

Re: College Prospects
There's a lot to like about him. He's fearless in the pocket. Arm is strong enough. Plus runner. Very good balance. Sufficiently accurate.
That said, I don't see any elite traits. His floor is Gardner Minshew, and his ceiling is probably just a rich man's Gardner Minshew. Are you using a 1st rounder on that and probably hitching your coaching tenure to it? It seems like a pick you'd make if you were absolutely desperate to upgrade the spot and didn't see a lot of options (there will be a few teams like that, there always are.)
I like Kenny Pickett a lot better. He has to be a little more patient in the pocket, but the size, arm, athleticism, accuracy, and juice are all superior IMHO.

I want to see more production from a guy from a mid-major.

Re: College Prospects
@MJW Do you think it is hard to find good players on sorry/weak rosters?
Re: College Prospects
I always wonder how many Shaq Barrett types slip through the cracks because teams do not put out the effort to bring them along, of course the NFL is designed to make that quite a challenge.

Re: College Prospects
Yes it is. 2 college players coming for the draft, if you don't know them, if you don't want to know them or have any thoughts on them. Then the post was not meant for you. Since my days of coming to message boards I have always been prepared for no response at all.
Re: College Prospects
You mean college prospects? Yeah, it can be. For one big reason, really - scouts have to maximize the number of prospects they watch whenever possible. Few teams are going to dispatch an area scout to, I dunno, Rice @ FIU when they can send him to Georgia-Florida. At best, those guys get their looks during the post-season process and in tape cutups, but it's not the same. Nobody is standing on the table for them for months because nobody has gotten a chance to dive into their games yet.
And, there will always be scouts and GMs who are wary of guys who didn't play against top competition. It's just one of those biases.

Re: College Prospects
We have to find some talent beyond the 6 picks we have. If we replace our losses with new old last chance NFL players, we then lose our comp picks.MJW wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 12:52 amYou mean college prospects? Yeah, it can be. Re: College Prospects
What will become of Adam Anderson?
Re: College Prospects
I know I tend to overrate PAC-12 players but I’m telling you right now, R. White the RB from Arizona State is gonna be A good middle round pick up!
Re: College Prospects
What kind of result would happen if Jordan Davis peeled off about 25/30 lbs?
Re: College Prospects
He would probably have to get better technically instead of standing straight up and trying to walk his way through offensive linemen
Re: College Prospects
Maybe that's why my sim allowed me to pick him 60th. All my pick thoughts might be made to sound like trash, but hey, I'll keep trying. If we could find the prospects that would blow up offensive lines we could start rookies in the backfield and look good.
Re: College Prospects
I love the talent. He just needs a ton of work. Which is fine.
Re: College Prospects
Between now and the combine it will be interesting to see the scouts recommending some of these edge players to put on weight and prepare to move inside.
Wish my printer was working I'd print out the listed weights now so I could compare them later.

Re: College Prospects
I see you drink frequently from this well, and I don't agree with it. Edge rushers don't put on weight and then waltz into the interior. It's a completely different game on the inside of the defensive line, with different reads and keys and skillsets. The inverse, a swap from interior to edge, is also just not done. As a personnel group, sure. As an everyone change, never.
Ask yourself, when was the last time you saw a professional defensive lineman gain or lose 30 pounds to swap from one of those positions to the other?

I agree with what you are saying but the NFL also keeps things private like weight, it will just about always be listed weight.
If Milton Williams (290) ever takes over for Fletcher Cox (310) that weight may stay at 290 for five years - but it doesnt make it a fact.
I know I've watched enough draft to see d-linemen come in quite heavier than their college weight before the draft. Edge is a crap word in my book, I think a 4-3 DE and a OLB are different, so some will ponder 3-4 DE and what I meant is 260/265 prolly won't be a good idea.
What worked in college has to change for the NFL. I am not talking about the few who will be on the cereal box or planning commercials already.
I want to say Williams was preparing for the draft around 270/275. But don't hold me to it.
I also looked at Gholston a few times and thought he had to be over 300 easily.
Not a finger snap waltz - a process or you are searching again the next year (leaving Gerald helpless for years).
Re: College Prospects
@Cheb if Jax picks Hutchinson, what position would you put him? 2nd string?
Re: College Prospects
I'm no expert on the Jaguars, but Chaisson has been a JAG and has upside due to his youth. If the Jaguars draft Hutchinson, they might keep Chaisson around but I wouldn't be surprised if he were let go or kept on the bench.
Re: College Prospects
What round will Araiza get picked?

Don't think of the round, just pick one for our team.

Re: College Prospects
Phidarian Mathis hasn't been getting alot of buzz in the draft community, but I really like what I see as a potential Suh and Gholston replacement. Like most Saban linemen, he's well coached and polished; also like most Saban linemen, I wonder if he hasn't already reached his ceiling.
I think Mathis is a second round talent that likely won't last until the end of the second when we pick. He has enough juice as an interior rusher to bring some thunder on third downs in college, but he might be limited as a two-down defender early in his career as a pro. Still, nine sacks for Alabama as an interior lineman isn't anything to sniff at, and I wonder how good he could be as a consistent one-gapper instead of two-gapping as often as he did in college.
If he's there at our pick in the second, he would be difficult to turn down for me. He's be an immediate starter at five-tech in base defense and could rotate in on nickel packages. Dude could log 400+ snaps for us next year easily.
Then again I have mancrush on just about every defensive lineman who has come out of Alabama for the last ten years because they're so damned consistent on a snap-to-snap basis, so if you find that suitably annoying you can dismiss this opinion accordingly.

Apparently Travis Jones and Perrion Winfrey are unlockable in Senior Bowl practices.
Just goes to show what I know.

Re: College Prospects
What does ATH stand for?
Jordan Lewis, ATH, Southern, (6021, 195, SR)
One of the most celebrated players in the country, there wasn’t an award that Lewis wasn’t a candidate for following the 2021 spring season. At a listed 195 pounds, he’s deployed as a defensive end and was a terror off of the edge. He finished with an FCS-leading 15 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks on his way to becoming the first player ever from the SWAC to win the Buck Buchanan Award, which honors the top defensive player in the FCS. It’s rare to see prospects slide back levels on the defense, but because of his size, Lewis will likely be asked to play outside linebacker or safety. Having added experience on the first level could be beneficial to his role as a blitzer. Coaches raved about his athleticism, which he’s had since high school as he set a school record in the 110-meter hurdles (14.16) and on the Florida Classic 2A state hurdles title (14.08).
On tape, it doesn’t take long to find No. 32. His hustle and relentlessness to wreak havoc stood out during the first minute of the first game that I watched him play, which was against Alabama State where he had four sacks to go along with 11 tackles.
