Florida has never paid a coach and their coaches nearly what Clemson pays Dabo and his coordinators. Outside of Dabo making over $8 million per year, they have 2 of the top 5 coordinator salaries in CFB (or did). Venables was making $2.5 million and Elliot was getting $2 million. Mullens was making $7.6 million and his coordinator group combined were under $2.5 million.Snake wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 10:07 am I could see Dabo taking another job. Nothing is sacred at this point. We will see if the new administration has what it takes to support him. With other schools spending insane amounts of money to hire coaches and infrastructure (UF for example), it’s possible. Dabo needs to start getting those otherworldly quarterbacks again. He’s definitely gone for Bama if he’s offered.
He is a smart guy and realizes that playing in a shit conference works in his favor.
Clemson has been keeping Dabo in the top 3 in salaries, but they also pay his coordinators more than any other school, plus are top 3 in facilities, and are in an easy conference.
I doubt Dabo ever leaves. While it is possible, it's more unlikely than Riley leaving OU at this point.
edit: I didn't see Dread's post, but...what he said.
Re: NCAA Football 2021
Snake may have been referring more to the new $85M 'athletic facility' (i.e. football training center) UF is building that will be open soon.uscbucsfan wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 11:09 amFlorida has never paid a coach and their coaches nearly what Clemson pays Dabo and his coordinators. Other programs mentioned have built them in recent years and they all run close to $100M.
They are essentially more modern versions of One Buc Place errrr... Advent Health Training Center. Except for college football.
Certainly a nice recruiting tool when kids visit the campus.

Clemson already has this ( spent a bit less). My school's facilities aren't bad, either.
My point is that it's not going to be money to lure Dabo away. No one, not even Alabama, is paying coaches what Clemson is. They have the number 1 ranked facility by some people and they treat him like a god.
Maybe if he has a few more seasons without a playoff run, things will change, but I'm not sure what the angle is outside of Alabama. I certainly don't think it will be UF.
edit: It's odd that UF is so far behind the times with this type of facility.
Re: NCAA Football 2021
We agree on Clemson spending money and money not being the driver that would lure Dabo away.uscbucsfan wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 12:49 pmhttps://247sports.com/LongFormArticle/c ... 0189814_18Dread wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 11:56 am

I'm just speculating that if there is one spot in college he could go it would be Bama given his history there. Maybe at some point he'll want a new challenge and feels he's done all he can do for the Clemson program. I doubt it happens, he seems like a lifer type in terms of loyalty. But loyalty is in increasingly short supply in the world of College Football these days.
In regards to UF, I wasn't saying they would be in play for Dabo at any point. Just lumping them with Clemson and all the others who have invested in new state of the art football facilities. Which is the trend for major college football programs and to my earlier point why Jimbo and the FSU administration were at odds which led to him leaving for TAMU.
If memory serves I believe it was Oregon that started this trend of building fancy new football facilities about a decade ago. UF was certainly behind the curve. But there is alot of politics at these universities where the egg heads don't feel that money should go to football even though the people who donate it are doing so with the specific intention of the football program using it.

I'm in this movie. It was filmed in Columbia, SC and the stadium was Williams-brice. I auditioned for the younger brother, but I was a walking extra and then obviously a fan in the stadium.
1:47 is the scene I walked around in with my mom.

It's my favorite football movie. Such a great depiction of college football, even if some of it hollywood sensationalism.

They took all day to film the stadium scenes, but the horseshoe walking scene at the end, we walked in a circle for like 2 hours.

One telling fact: You likely know that two Swinney kids have played for Clemson, and one still does (he's a junior). Dabo's youngest son just finished winning back-to-back state HS championships and has scholarship offers to go to some random non P-5 schools, but he has already announced his intent to walk on at Clemson if he has to. I know scholarship money isn't exactly a factor for the Swinney family, but I have a feeling the kid would talk to his dad about whether he's going to still be coaching/living there before making an announcement like that.
They key to me will be what Dabo does once all his kids are out. He's a religious family man, so that tie to the school is pretty compelling, but in another 5 years? It will just be his own loyalty. We'll see.....

Yeah the flu doesn’t turn you into a bunch of pussies. Which they were all year against physical teams.
Good discussion upthread too. I learned some things.

This kind of thing is so cringe. But he's just a 19 year old kid. Can't blame him too much for not realizing it. Never, ever make public excuses when you get your ass beat. Give credit to the other team. Acknowledge you didn't play your best. Vow to do better next time. The end.Phantom wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 5:07 pm Cry me a fucking river CJ

The hell with grammatical errors, he double-negatived himself into saying the opposite of what he intended.

Clemson with three decommits in the last 4 days. 29th, 78th, and 94th best players in the country.
Early signing day is a disaster and must change.

All three defensive.

I'm more worried about how it will affect recruiting because, for high school kids watching TV, he was very much the public face of Clemson defensive football. That's who they saw and heard about.
Re: NCAA Football 2021
the day before Venables was in the airplane hanger giving his introduction speech to the Sooner faithful, he was in the house of a recruit pitching the Clemson spiel. It’s insanity.

Re: NCAA Football 2021
If you were getting paid over $9 million a year to coach football and some media type person from your university wanted you to cut a promo for your squad, you'd probably do it too.
You probably would not look like such a huge dork, but still. Points for effort?

Huge day for Gamecocks. Get 2 former 5 star transfers and steal 2 big recruits to bring our class to 12th overall.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t super excited about the portal/transfer changes but if it’s going to help bring parity I’m all for it.
