where has there ever been a more screwed up locker room for all to avoid? Welcome to Cleveland!

Very interesting move. I wonder what his thinking is. I would opt for the Baker route and go somewhere you can maybe outmuscle a youngster for a opportunity for a redemption arc. Maybe he thinks the Browns are actually a great situation and Watson is just can't finish a year healthy. Flacco showed it was a pretty good spot for a flash. Maybe they just offered the most money. Baker has higher offers to back up he turned down.
Honestly thought we were destined for a Winston in Atlanta trying to hold off a Daniels or Penix or someone. Honestly would've been much more worried about that situation than Kirk.

Maybe he has admitted to himself that he'll be nothing more than a career backup and is just chasing the best paycheck he can get at this point.Doctor wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 12:59 pm Very interesting move. Wednesday Day/Night Football?
NFL is planning to play another game this year on Christmas Day, which is on a Wednesday. So a Wednesday Christmas Day game coming.
Re: ***2024 NFL Offseason thread ***
Shefty says it’s a double header with those flier teams playing the previous Saturday so “normal” TNF-type rest for those four squads.

I imagine it'll be divisional matchups.

^ new kickoff style
Re: ***2024 NFL Offseason thread ***
I like it. Hopefully leads to more returns
Re: ***2024 NFL Offseason thread ***
This makes having a quality return man much more vital. Time to stop pretending Thompkins doesn't suck.

Re: ***2024 NFL Offseason thread ***
I think a more running back style returner makes sense now
Re: ***2024 NFL Offseason thread ***
Not in favor. Corruption of the game of football.
Re: ***2024 NFL Offseason thread ***
Feel like coaches will get creative with these return blocking schemes
It keeps the essence of a kickoff without having runners going full speed into eachother.. i dont mind it

I like the concept of the new kickoff but would have liked to seen them first test it in preseason and if it goes over well, make it a permanent fixture. Anytime you have this significant a change, you want to see how it goes over first.
I think my only issue is I think if it goes through end zone it should come out to 25 not 30. They’re trying too hard to get scoring up. Plus it takes away the concept of surprise onside, squib kicks and pooch kicks. But overall I like the creative part of it and it should be fun.

I think the rule change, beyond the safety issue(s), is to make the kickoff an actual play instead of having the kicker show off how far he can kick it 80% of the time.Navybuc wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 10:36 am I like the concept of the new kickoff but would have liked to seen them first test it in preseason and if it goes over well, make it a permanent fixture. I don't really like this change. It's not football imo. At least not NFL football.
The game of football isn't safe. It never will be. If these players want to be safe, I'm sure there are some Lowe's that need shelf stockers or cart pushers if they want alternative employment.
That's why they get paid the obnoxious amount of money that they do.

There's where I am at in regards to this. It keeps the idea of a kick return while theoretically reducing injuries.
That said, I think it's only a matter of time until more elaborate blocking schemes start to enter the fray here. That posted clip was basically "run back a few yards, turn around, find a different color jersey, and block him." Simple stuff like traps and pin-and-pulls could be huge if you get the timing right.
Re: ***2024 NFL Offseason thread ***
I agree. Someone could break this and the NFL will be forced to nerf it. We shall see.Cheb wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 2:42 pmThere's where I am at in regards to this. It keeps the idea of a kick return while theoretically reducing injuries.

It would be nice to have kickoffs worth looking forward to. Not just a piss break. Trick is finding balance.
I’m a traditionalist at heart. But some things just make sense. The MLB making the intentional walk four-fingers signal instead of throwing 4 balls. Fixing the kickoff is more complicated, but it needed fixed.

XFL using for a season isn't enough evidence it works well?Navybuc wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 10:36 am I like the concept of the new kickoff but would have liked to seen them first test it in preseason and if it goes over well, make it a permanent fixture. Exactly! Only a matter of time till some coach comes up with some unique return that almost breaks itCheb wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 2:42 pmThere's where I am at in regards to this. It keeps the idea of a kick return while theoretically reducing injuries.

I don’t really think anything that happens in the XFL should be taken seriously, but that’s just me. I think the NFL kickoff is a little different. I’m sure it’ll work fine…I’d just like to see a test period first.kaimaru wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 3:42 pmXFL using for a season isn't enough evidence it works well?Navybuc wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 10:36 am I like the concept of the new kickoff but would have liked to seen them first test it in preseason and if it goes over well, make it a permanent fixture. Some of you would be happier if e-sports players just started playing Madden 99 and it was streamed.
Re: ***2024 NFL Offseason thread ***
Am I the only one that thinks the new kick off is rather exciting?
Re: ***2024 NFL Offseason thread ***
Well, it can’t possibly be as boring as the current state of kickoffs where 80+% aren’t returned. Right?
I get the purists won’t like it, but the current version was far from pure anyway. Same for most of the game.

I think the new kickoff rules look awesome and I think we'll see a ton of returns.
I agree with whomever said a RB style returner will be coveted.

This rule change makes me reallllly happy that Keith Armstrong retired.
