Same could be said for TJ. He has 17 sacks in 15games, 4 forced fumbles and one int, games while Myles has 13 sacks in 14 games, but has no sacks in 6 of those games, while TJ only has 3 games without a sack.
TJ is more consistent and more splashy.

TJ has been amazing as well. He's definitely kept Pittsburgh afloat. He would absolutely be deserving.

1 bit of advice when discussing matters like this, you can compliment a player and make a case for them without trying to tear someone else down. TJ Watt is elite and would deserve to be DPOY. You can say so without trying to downtalk another elite player, especially one like Myles Garrett. That only makes your point about TJ fall on deaf ears.

Not talking down, just contrasting their impacts, respectively.
I do agree that AWJ only wins DPOY if the voters are exclusively Sapp, Brooks, Lynch, and Ronde.

These awards are still popularly awards and flare so matters. DPOY is almost always about sacks. And for a DB they better have INTs.
Revis played some of the sound football for a whole career and never won a DPOY. Winfield has no shot.

AWJ has a chance.

What's gonna hurt TJ is whether or not the Steelers make the playoffs. The last time a DPOY was from a team that didn't make the playoffs was Jason Taylor in 06.

Not true.

Stephen Gilmore won in 2019. He only had 6 INTs but the Pats had the #1 defense in yards and points. I believe they allowed 14ppg which is ridiculously low in this era of football.

True. Not sure if I’m just bitter, but Luke Coochie won it for no good reason at all! Lavonte had a better season that exact same year, but we suck so…

You think they've all played better than AWJ???
Possibly. I'd say Garrett has had the biggest impact of any defensive player in football this year by far.
Myles Garrett has one game with zero stats and 4 games with zero QB hits. DPOY shouldn't disappear in games

You only make yourself sound foolish with this take. Myles Garrett is all-world. You prove nothing trying to minimize Myles Garrett.

That tells me that there were a few teams on their schedule that knew to gameplan around him and had the horses to make it work.

Garrett is damn good and had a damn good season on an otherwise forgettable season for the Brownies.

I edited this as I realized you were eliminating Watt because of the Steelers record. Nevermind

He literally alters teams game plans so they compensate for him. Saying he in anyway doesn't have a consistent impact is foolish.

The second playoff appearance in what 20 years is a forgettable season? They have 10 wins and playoff odds over 99%.

I stand corrected about their season. Pretty sure I wasn't alone in assuming it was a letdown after the injuries they had.. I obviously do not follow them that closely but I suspect they are where they are because of the defense and Miles Garrett is a huge part of that

It must be as Flacco is "check my stat sheet" Winston for them but somehow 3-1

Winfield might get top 5 voting for DPOY. He is the best DB this year, and I think that's more or less undisputed. However, pass rushers are the kings of this award and it takes a truly elite season by a DB and a down year for pass rushers to get a DB the award.

I think its debatable between him and Kyle Hamilton as the best Safety.

Player X
Games played: 158
Tackles: 783
Sacks: 12
Interceptions: 32
Forced fumbles: 14
Pass deflections: 107

AWJ
Games played: 59
Tackles: 384
Sacks: 15
Interceptions: 7
Forced fumbles: 11
Pass deflections: 27

Player X = Troy Polamalu

I always thought of Troy Polamalu as a LOS more than a coverage guy for some reason. That’s a lot of pass breakups and INT’s. Shows how disruptive Winfield is when he’s going towards line of scrimmage and as a tackler.

Mostly stems from his elite timing jumping the snap count and making TFL. But he was always an elite coverage safety and a ball hawk 1st and foremost.
