I still think he doesn't the maturity nor mental make up to succeed. He is not even the consensus #1 pick. Up until 1/14/24, Marvin Harrison Jr Had a consensus rank of 1.13. In fact, the Athletic has MHJ #1 right now on their big board. When was the last time a WR was a better than the top QBs in a draft? They can still get a QB at 9 or even trade up if they want from 9, but I wouldn't pass up MHJ. So unless they absolutely are sure that Williams or Maye is the best QB in the draft, I definitely would pass on them for MHJ

Why don't we consider selecting Bowers (if we trade up to the top 10 for him) and then McCarthy in the second round?
Imagine McCarthy throwing to Evans, Godwin, Palmer, and Bowers. He didn't have a good receivers and tight ends but Roman Wilson at Michigan
Save a lot of $$$$ to resign AWJ and Evans.

Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. had his moments, but was very much up and down. Oregon’s Bo Nix started slow and got progressively better throughout the week. The overall on-field play by Penix and Nix, however, didn’t live up to the hype.

Raiders? Oh heck noESPN's Matt Miller has Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy going No. 13 overall to the Raiders in his latest mock draft.
"He's mobile and tough as nails, and scouts praise his arm strength and ability to make difficult throws in big situations," Miller said. "His potential and ceiling have him worthy of a top-15 selection."
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
I think he’s gonna be great.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
If McCarthy goes to any AFC team, they're my favorite.

The cost to jump into the top 10 would be astronomical. Only for a QB should that even be considered an option.Phantom wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 1:57 pm Why don't we consider selecting Bowers (if we trade up to the top 10 for him) and then McCarthy in the second round?

The Chiefs gave up the 27th, 91st, and another first in 2018 to move up for Mahomes. Would you do that for Bowers?

Top two DL fits for our team - any round - who ya got?

This is the draft and you make a list so you don't have to kick and scream in a childlike manner.

Probably. Bowers looked like a hall of famer as a true freshman in college.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:25 amThe cost to jump into the top 10 would be astronomical. Looking at that compensation the Chiefs just absolutely stole Mahomes, didn't they?Snake wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 10:56 amProbably. Bowers looked like a hall of famer as a true freshman in college.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:25 am

Bowers looks like a stud, but we have too many needs to give that much up for a TE. IMO. I'd give that up if someone like Maye/Daniels started to slide.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
My thoughts on Bowers is he better not spend to much time around the LOS playing fullback or big WR. He will become a target.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
That's unlikely.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 10:58 amLooking at that compensation the Chiefs just absolutely stole Mahomes, didn't they?

Some players/contributors have dropped their prospect lists at Fanspeak.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
The Elite tier in this draft is thick and I wouldn't be mad at trading up to get one. Yes, I'd move up for Bowers. Coen would love a Bowers. There is more than enough evidence that shows how a mismatch TE can be a ridiculous weapon.

Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
I think the only way the Bucs would get involved with Bowers is if they lose Evans. That would force the team to look for a primary target at either WR or TE.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Perhaps. I could see Liam using Godwin in the Kupp role, which can carry the offense. But it's a great draft for WRs.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
@Obsolete is correct. Godwin is not the same player since he got hurt.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Godwin has his first full season since 2018 and that is despite many visible camera shots in multiple games showing that he was in pain.
We were caught with no one else to do the middle other than Otton.

Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Regardless, it has taken its toll on Godwin. Even before his injury I wouldve been leery of him being a WR1. In the games Evans was out, he sorta disappeared and it was AB that took over games.
Chris is a great WR2 or slot guy but the better CBs in the league lock him down too easily.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
You said he lost a lot since his injury and I offered a different take saying he was beat up and still playing even though he wasnt 100%.Obsolete wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 3:48 pmRegardless, it has taken its toll on Godwin. I also think our whole offensive approach hung on how much time the o-line could give Baker. We ran a very introverted offense, evidently they felt we had to. Later in the season did you notice when we started using Otton in a much more attacking way? The longer routes take more time. Tom went thru the same thing the year before.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
That would be just like Licht to get a former center that was moved to tackle to play guard. If he was from University of Findlay, I would swear we would draft him even if Dallas Turner was still on the board
https://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/draft2 ... ield-yatesGraham Barton, G/C, Duke
Barton's versatility makes him an appealing player to basically every team, as he began his college career as a center and finished it at left tackle, playing both spots at a high level. Many in the scouting world think he'll settle into a guard role with center flexibility, and this pick would follow a Tampa Bay trend. The Bucs like to draft mobile college tackles and kick them inside, with recent examples including Cody Mauch and Robert Hainsey.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Seems to be zero interest with IDL prospects in this draft so far. (players to add to the Bucs roster).
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Is Bowers that good?
How does he compare to last year’s TE class? Mayer/Kincaid/LaPorta
When I google Bowers vs Mayer, most places pick Mayer over Bowers last year

I feel like GMs are still in the process of figuring out tight end. Insofar as evaluating it. Last year was a step in the right direction.

I googled that same and most hits were that Bowers was the better pass catcher and better athlete over Mayer with Mayer having a slight edge in blocking.
Bowers is the best prospect since Pitts. Everyone was high on Pitts for his potential, but Brock was the better player in college.
Bowers is being compared to Kittle by many.

2 receptions for 4 yards Kittle?
