Seems like that would make it easier. They can also fire Giovanni and FitzRyan. Just to show ownership how serious they are.Four Verticals wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 11:42 amWhich is likely to be difficult considering there is no coach named Ben on the Eagles staff.

Brian Johnson is their OC. A few of us wanted him as an option here. He coached Trask at UF.Four Verticals wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 11:42 amWhich is likely to be difficult considering there is no coach named Ben on the Eagles staff.
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Say what? Haha. If it's true, Carolina is out because of lack of picks
The Pittsburgh Steelers would consider trading HC Mike Tomlin.
The Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers are among the interested teams, and the Steelers would try to get a good number of picks.

From Pittsburg's perspective, why would you want to go down this road?

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Great question.
To me at least, an elite head coach is worth a ton, even more than an elite quarterback. Tomlin is only 51, and if he stays in good health can coach for another 20 years if he feels so inclined.
Only a crazy person even tries to trade a head coach of any caliber, much less a guy as good as Tomlin is.

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
It's the psychological craving of a "fresh start".
"Out with the old in with the new". Even though the old was built to last and most new stuff is crap.
Not to mention, in case you hadn't noticed, the fresh start notion tends to go hand in hand with getting/tanking a new QB onto the roster. Which Pittsburgh desperately wants. Hence the moronic push to move on from Tomlin.

It's comical to think we truly know what's going down between these adults off of soundbites.

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Giving up a 1st pick for that coach would be a waste. They have 3 playoff wins in what 13 years? Tomlin also has no coaching tree that went on to do other things in his 17 years. That is also a red flag.
Don't get me wrong, I think he's probably a great players coach, for example, he seems more of a type that is a solution to a veteran team that is close to a championship. But the Steelers are in decline and I don't think he's the type you hire to rebuild. (As it seems under his leadership)
I mean there is nostalgia with having him on our staff in 02 but I still don't trust it. The one year he was D coordinator in 06 in Min- 31st pass defense.
I prefer Bowels over Tomlin because Bowels is a better defensive mind and A better X and O coach than Tomlin. And don't forget Baker sliced his defense up in Pittsburgh in 2020 playoff.

Which is why we should consider keeping Bowels to build stability and let Canalas develop and do his thing.
I don't mean keeping him 20 years, I think that's way too long for any coach in one place but I agree on stability.

Bowles isn't going anywhere. That's a fan driven narrative.Central_Buc wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 3:56 pm

2. I don’t care about my HC being a good/bad coordinator, I care about them being a leader; and hiring a good OC AND DC rather than calling plays themselves.

That is your preference in a coach. Nothing wrong with that.acmillis wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 8:41 pm1. I this case, I do feel it's important. Everyone is promoted from within. They all know the Steeler way from the owners down to the towel boys. He has a poor offense or poor defense. Fires an OC, promotes, moves on. Those OCs/DCs don't get second jobs why? They are part of system, and unless you want that okay OC/DC for your HC, that's not your systemacmillis wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 8:41 pm1. Is tomlin hiring the coordinators or is the GM?kaimaru wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 9:59 pmI this case, I do feel it's important. Everyone is promoted from within. Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
I'm pretty sure Tomlin hired the coordinator. He's the head coach, right?
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Normally, the GM hires everybody and also drafts/signs players.
Tomlin is making Michelin star chicken salad out of the chicken shit he’s been given.
Would I trade a first round pick for him? In a heartbeat.
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
I looked at his last two on both sides were promotions from within. He's probably like Arians. Loyal to his guys. This latest promotion, I doubt he will hire him like the last 4 times unless the owners wants a departure
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
@acmillis is 100% right. You can't look at the Steelers like you look at other teams. Most of their coaches have been there for years and get promoted. They've hired from outside a bit more in recent years. But the Steelers have a system they believe in.

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Also, Bruce Arians served as OC for Tomlin for 5 years. Does that not count?

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
I think Daboll has played himself onto the hot seat after winning a playoff game and being coach of the year. He's a good play caller, not good as a head coach. He looks lost not calling the plays. If the Giants do bring him back, he needs to go back to calling plays.
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
0 chance he gets fired. Look at all of their injuries.MRM wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 3:51 pm I think Daboll has played himself onto the hot seat after winning a playoff game and being coach of the year. Now, if they shit the bed next year, he gone
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
They haven't won against a winning team. They are 0-8 verses team with winning records. In the games they lost, the average margin has been -16.9 points. You think he should stay and Bowles is trash? We had injuries this year two, Dean, CD3, White, LVD, secondary, Baker 3 times now, etc. Why is it Bowles definitely needs to be fired and not Daboll. -16.9! points differential is 100% not getting your team ready. .485 SoS vs .511. Considering their division meant the other 11 games had a SoS of .432 which he should have won a lot more gamesacmillis wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 6:18 pm0 chance he gets fired. 14-18-1- 1 wildcard appearance- "0 chance he's fired
17-17 1, maybe 2 division titles and playoff appearances- "we need to move on"
Love the double standards. I wonder why..

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Oh god… here comes racist boots.
Nyg also won a playoff game. NYG didn’t have Tom fucking Brady. This is Dabols first stint as coach, Bowles second, but sure, it has everything to do with race…
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
You never know, the Glazers might decide to fire Bowles after their wild card loss.
then hire Jim Harbaugh!!
then hire Jim Harbaugh!!
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Seems the only one making this about race is you, per usual. But by all means, keep deflecting.

Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
I have to agree with you, I would have interpreted "Love the double standards" as how it's okay for that kind of record for someone else's team, but a complete meltdown over wanting to fire Bowles for similar success. The only reason anyone would read that as racist is a them problem
Re: 2023 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Thread
Okay. Then clear it up. What did you mean by, "Love the double standards. I wonder why?" What double standard are you referring to?
