Week 11 Discussion
Re: Week 11 Discussion
Ouch, Mark Andrews season likely over.
Re: Week 11 Discussion
Just how beat up is the 49ers o-line, they signed 2 OT's to the practice squad in October and a G in November. I hope all of our d-line players can smell blood in the water.
Re: Week 11 Discussion
What could our 240 OLB's learn from Haason Reddick - I'd even throw Devin White in that mix.

Re: Week 11 Discussion
Are people going to bitch and complain over the made up fake controversy around the "hip drop" tackle after last nights game?
Re: Week 11 Discussion
Hip drop is perfect tackling technique to get down someone who you’re chasing from behind.
Re: Week 11 Discussion
without violating the laws of physics, can you come up with a better way to tackle someone running away from you in a dead sprint?
- horse collar? this is better?
- pushing them down? from behind? you're pushing them towards the endzone
- Tripping? this is better?
- push them out of bounds? that would require being next to them, not behind them.
- wrap up tackling without falling down? how are you supposed to do that if you're both in a dead sprint running the same direction?
Hip drop is the only possible way to do it that isn't very dangerous (horse collar) or perceived as cheap (tripping).

Interesting that this is not a taught technique of tackling. Nor was it a norm in decades prior of American football.
Here's a video of chase down tackles. It's 6 years old. You won't see 1 hip drop, but somehow these guys were able to catch up to and tackle.

Re: Week 11 Discussion
The 2nd clip is a hip drop tackle Cowboys vs Giants. There was another attempt at it Saints v Cowboys, he goes for the hips and drops his legs, but his arms slid to the thighs...same thing.Bootz wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 2:16 pm"Possibly the only way"......Snake wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 1:07 pm

I don't think you made the point you tried to make there and I'm sure there will be some spin, but you cannot enforce "no tackles from behind unless it's a shoe string tackle".
Re: Week 11 Discussion
Yup, the Bengals season is over. Joe Burrow is out for the rest of the season.
Re: Week 11 Discussion
NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills said the league acknowledges that kind of “hip-drop” tackle is associated with ankle and leg injuries.BucsNBills wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 11:32 am Are people going to bitch and complain over the made up fake controversy around the "hip drop" tackle after last nights game?

Sounds like it's not a fake controversy
Re: Week 11 Discussion
Football is associated with injuries.
Re: Week 11 Discussion
You can't land with your weight on the quarterback, but it's okay to throw your weight on the leg of a player?

Re: Week 11 Discussion
What do you suggest? 2 hand touch from behind?
There's a point where it's just too far. Many believe we've passed that, but there was a segment on TV today where they were talking about the hip drop tackles and they said 80% of chase down tackles are some form of this...How the hell can you write that out of the game?
If the defender gets past you, you have to trip them, catch them, or let them go?
For reference this is how the NFL defines hip drop tackle:
If this wasn't allowed, you basically cannot tackle from behind. There has to be some common sense. You cannot legislate out all injuries.a tackle in which a defender encircles his opponent and then drops his weight down to bring him to the ground
Re: Week 11 Discussion
There's a reason hip drop tackles were never discussed before recently (last 2-3 years). And it wasn't because of ignorance.
If players were actually taught how to properly tackle, this wouldn't be an issue.

Re: Week 11 Discussion
The reason is because the league wasn't trying to protect everyone. You showed highlights of them. They've always been part of the game. What is proper technique? Be faster and get in front or beside the player? Shoe string only if you can't catch them? You think that's feasible?
It's literally the proper technique when horse collar was made illegal.
Horse collars, crack back blocks, putting weight on a QB was never discussed until it was. That doesn't mean it wasn't occurring regularly.

After review NFL New York has ruled the play as an illegal tackle - 15 yard penalty with fines to come.
Thx to Bootz and the millions of fantasy football fans we will make this a game that we all can appreciate..

Jalen Ramsey is awesome!!!
Re: Week 11 Discussion
Tom Brady will come out of retirement and go back to New England. Teaming back up with Belichick and McDaniels. They will draft Marvin Harrison Jr, in the top three. They will spend a bunch of money in free agency. They will also sign Mike Evans.

Re: Week 11 Discussion
I'm sure it's just a coincidence this Broncos defense is playing as dirty as the Saints defense did under Payton
Re: Week 11 Discussion
This is the second week in a row watching a Broncos game. Why do I feel that we have the same crappy offense as they do (only we actually take shots from time to time)? Is it because we have two defensive minded coaches with two okay QBs?
Re: Week 11 Discussion
Sean Payton is defensive minded? Wasnt he an OC before being the Saints HC?
Re: Week 11 Discussion
Re: Week 11 Discussion
Doesn't make him defensive minded. It just means he understands the importance of having a decent defense.
The Saints didn't really get over the hump until they were able to pair Paytons top flight offense with a respectable defense.
As much as i dislike Payton and his stupid face, he is a hell of a coach and understands that it takes balance on both sides to win.
Now if you'll excuse me, i need to go throw up after complimenting Sean Payton.
Re: Week 11 Discussion
Hey Bootz, guess who sacked Justin Herbert.
Hint he has more PD's than all 6 of our IDL's combined.

I saw the statline for that game this morning and was gonna post. Brooks is putting up some good tape for the Packers.

He's off the bench 2nd string. Good value for a 6th rounder and no telling how far he takes it.
