Week 10 Discussion
Re: Week 10 Discussion
I think that position is very short-sighted. It's been 9 games. The stories on these guys are far from done being written. I wouldn’t call CJ Stroud a savior anymore than I'd say Bryce Young or Anthony Richardson were busts.

Re: Week 10 Discussion
Well, yes, you have to make the right pick; at QB and at any other position (and at the coaching and front office levels). I'm not sure what the takehome here is? I mean...scouting departments are multi-million dollar budget affairs with an attached, salaried expert class that gets paid to do this. I mean, no one is throwing bones, consulting the oracle, or reading palms.13F11B wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 10:39 pmOver simplified, but even in that state, you have to make the right pick. Carolina thought they made the right pick. Their savior has not helped. Colts thought they had it right. How is that working for them? How did Jameis work for the Buccaneers?
In the real world, it is more complex.
There is risk and error in everything. The point of a boatload of cash, infrastructure, and salaried experts are to reduce that risk and error. So put all of that cash and collective cognitive horsepower to work to make the correct picks, right? That is the point of the whole thing.
EDIT - @Bootz , its not short-sighted. The "Rookie QB Savior" is obviously tongue-in-cheek because of the conversation that surrounds it. But the reality is that this team has 5 wins right now. And its overwhelmingly because of the Rookie QB. And its despite an OL clustereff that he has also overcome as an extra slice of adversity.
Whether or not this is durable is TBD (because that is how time works!). But right now, it is what it is as the saying goes.
Re: Week 10 Discussion
I wasnt speaking about your post. I felt what @13F11B saying regarding Carolina & Indy thinking they made the right choice but maybe not was short-sighted. It's too early for that determination.Nobody wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 10:52 pmWell, yes, you have to make the right pick; at QB and at any other position (and at the coaching and front office levels). As far as Houston goes, yes Stroud has been the difference.

Josh Jacobs is a good runner. But he has always fumbled way too much.

That off-script nature was a staple of Kingsbury's system.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 9:23 amIf he could figure out how to play on schedule more often he could be great.

he's a off-schedule player naturally due to size.. he's a 'make it happen when shit breaks down' type of player. If the hope is for Kyler to be a system guy, then he's not your guy.
first read, maybe second, pressure.. go make something happen.. that's the play design for a QB with his skill set.

Re: Week 10 Discussion
He was exactly what Kliff Kingsbury wanted for his system. It's how he's been coached from 2019-2022. All it did was earn him 2 Pro Bowl bids and a huge contract. Yesterday he played well and earned his team their 2nd win of the year and 1st win in a month. His "skills set" fits most systems honestly.Noles1724 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 10:51 am he's a off-schedule player naturally due to size.. he's a 'make it happen when shit breaks down' type of player. Re: Week 10 Discussion
You'd think we'd have learned from RG3 and others not to crown rookie QBs so early but sure... lets just assume Stroud is a savior... that now brings the success rate of this tactic to like what, 4 out of 60?.... woo wee.
Play to win the game.
The draft will fall how it falls.

Yea, talented QBs. I don't swoon over the Sam Howell's or Josh Dobbs' or Kyle Trask's the way you do.13F11B wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 11:06 amYou really like certain types of QBs.Bootz wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 10:56 am

Stroud looks like 89% Mahomes.
Re: Week 10 Discussion
Honestly he looks like A-Rod to me. His ball placement is underrated and he's not flustered by pressure.

Howell's 47 sacks? Would he look better if it was 20? Looks like they are trying to get him killed.

Re: Week 10 Discussion
I said it in my draft profile about him. He’s the most advanced thrower of his class, and it’s not even close. And he’s processing the game extremely well. The only concern about him coming out was the fact that he did poorly against pressure in college. It’s like the opposite now. He has a path to being a top three quarterback in the NFL.

That's Washington's fault. Howell might be better behind an improved line. But it's on Washington to put pieces around him.mdb1958 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 11:31 amSnake wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 11:26 am I said it in my draft profile about him. Anyways - young fresh arm/19 sacks - enjoy it while it lasts.
Re: Week 10 Discussion
Colts lead the league with 61 TFL's (10 games)
We got 48.

Re: Week 10 Discussion
Oh, I think it is a bit different than that. You don't seem to like several talented QBs that lack a certain something. However, you seem to like some marginal QBs with that something.
For the record. I don't swoon over Howell, Dobbs, or Trask. I have put Trask forward in the category of "we have no idea what he is capable of since he has not had a chance yet".

Re: Week 10 Discussion
Didn’t Stroud lose to Carolina before playing us? Cherry pick a couple games why don’tcha.
Re: Week 10 Discussion
I don't know what that means exactly. Baker Mayfield is having a a very good year for us but you wanted him benched just to see what Trask could do. Sorry but mediocrity/unknowns don't interest me in the way they do you.13F11B wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 12:37 pmOh, I think it is a bit different than that. Re: Week 10 Discussion
I wanted Trask to win the training camp battle.... and if the Buccaneers are eliminated from playoff contention, I would want to start Trask to get a better look at him. Kinda different than what you are claiming. Baker has played well this year. The defense is more the reason for losses than Baker.Bootz wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 2:01 pmI don't know what that means exactly.
