Will not there be more excitement, early planning just might not work in our favor.

Jeez, I'd be thrilled with a commitment to early planning regardless. I get why the last few years were handled the way they were. But now it's time to build something.

Not always! 2020 doesn't happen if Licht doesn't do a fantastic job avoiding dead cap space for that run. That was pure planning.

Don't be silly. There's no reason to target Caleb Williams when like 5 or 6 teams in NFL history won a Superbowl with an average quarterback. We should be looking for our own Nick Foles or Trent Dilfer in free agency.
Target? Hmmm.
When one accidently says the tanking plan out loud....

I'm really not up for explaining to you for the 10th time what tanking is.

It's like Boomer and Olbermann. ESPN way, way overrates how much America likes these people.

I think McShay has had… ummm…errrr… a problem with being thirsty let’s say. He’s appeared on cam at least twice I can remember absolutely a mess. Google it.

Haven't felt like this about a WR since Calvin Johnson. And I loved Smith and Wilson.

Caleb Williams may not enter the 2024 draft if doesn’t have a chance to land up at a ‘desirable’ team.

There’s only downside for a guy like Caleb Williams to play another season of CFB. Yeah, NIL, but injuries are real.

I wouldn’t play another down. There’s only downside. You’re the projected #1 overall pick. Top 3 at worst.

Well Caleb, I hate to break it to ya but generally teams picking at the top of the draft kinda suck.

Said this on the other thread (since I was responding to game action) but I really like the back from Notre Dame. I don't know if he'll be a superstar in the league but he reminds me of Barry Foster back in the day. 70s and 80s kids will know the reference.

Agreed.

Folks around here are all in on #CollapseForCaleb, but this upcoming QB class is looking to be pretty robust. In addition to the above:

Drake Maye from UNC
Quinn Ewers from Texas
Riley Leonard from Duke
Jayden Daniels from LSU
Sam Hartman from Notre Dame

There's other dudes I'm forgetting, but this class could be historic at the QB position imo.

I made a thread about Daniels at some point in the last year. He fits the modern game well. Great deep ball. Very good mobility. But he definitely needs refinement in the short to intermediate and not bail on so many decent pockets.

Though I must say, it works for Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson, and Lamar Jackson.

Maybe I just need to get with the times.

Update on Caleb Williams…

do you still want him as your QB?
USC QB Caleb Williams could stay in school for his senior year if he doesn’t like the teams sitting atop the 2024 NFL Draft, according to his father Carl Williams.

"The funky thing about the NFL draft process is, he'd almost be better off not being drafted than being drafted first,” Carl Williams said in an interview with @gqsports.

“The system is completely backwards. The way the system is constructed, you go to the worst possible situation. The worst possible team, the worst organization in the league—because of their desire for parity—gets the first pick. So it's the gift and the curse. I mean, I've talked to Archie Manning—his career was shot because he went to a horrible organization. I've talked to Lincoln [Riley], and Kyler [Murray] struggled because of where he was drafted. Baker [Mayfield] struggled mightily because of where he was drafted. The organizations matter. He's got two shots at the apple. So if there's not a good situation, the truth is, he can come back to school,” Williams said via @gqsports.

Williams, 21, is projected to be the No. 1 pick if he declares for the upcoming NFL Draft.

So he’ll forfeit millions of dollars and risk injury just to enter the draft the following year when inevitably the worst team in the NFL will again have the #1 pick? Derp.

This is the part his father is overlooking.

Yes, the worst team in the NFL will have the top pick in the draft this season. And guess what, the same thing will be true next year as well.

Good luck with that, Mr Williams Sr.

Are you saying that's a negative? I'd take Cam Newton's career over a Hell of a lot of other QBs taken #1 overall. RoY, AP MVP, multiple playoff berths, a Super Bowl berth. He was dominant in his prime.

Penix reminded me of Michael Vick standing in the pocket but I'm not ready to make that a hot take due to both men being black, similar ht/wt, and left handed.

I'll keep watching and see. My wife is from Washington so I watch the huskies every year.

Kids good tho. Real strong and if you take his helmet off he looks like Barack Obama
