I'm predicting a pick on the early 30s.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Honestly if the Bucs get 1st overall pick, we’ll be set with Caleb Williams for next 15 years.. he’s that good
Or Marvin Harrison Jr? If we pick second overall.. the next Keyshawn Johnson…

Marvin Harrison Jr should be the #1 pick. Easily the best player in the draft and one of the best prospects to come out period.
But it's the NFL and the Golden Rule is what it is. And if you are picking 1st then you probably don't have an answer at QB, so yeah. It will probably be Caleb or Maye.

Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
I've watched at least some of all the top quarterbacks. General thoughts at this point:
Caleb Williams...the most obvious comp is Mahomes, if that says anything. He's an inch shorter and he's a bit lighter than ideal, but who cares? He's also a real threat to scramble. The hype is real. Unless there's a Matt Leinart "he doesn't love football" type revelation, this next draft process should be a coronation.
Drake Maye...I'm not sold. The arm talent is real, and the size is ideal. But the mechanics break down too often. And he doesn't keep his head up when he has to move out of the pocket. He has a whole season to improve in these areas, of course.
Michael Penix Jr...I really like the way he plays. Quick decisions, quick release. Plus athlete. Again, mechanics need some refining. But I think he has a bright future in the league. If we don't draft #1, I anticipate arguing for him. Even though he's a southpaw.
Shedeur Sanders...His upside is huge. Really mobile and a live arm. But he played at Jackson State until this season, and will have to show enough to prove he can hang at a higher level. The good news is, for an exceptional athlete with a big arm, you don't have to show *that* much, I guess.
Quinn Ewers...He reminds me a lot of Baker Mayfield, both physically and with his strengths and weaknesses. Is it fair to hold that against him? No. But he hasn't put it all together yet, and with Arch Manning in the wings, he's going to be auditioning for the job (and the draft) every single snap.
Bo Nix...I see him more as as high-end backup type than a guy you draft high and anoint. I don't see anything exceptional about his skill set or the way he plays.

Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Dark horse QB candidate: Sam Hartman. I liked him at Wake Forest and if he does the same stuff at Notre Dame this year he's a first round pick.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
You know someone will come out of the woodwork. It happens almost every season. Could be Hartman.

Indeed. In fact, I'd say Caleb probably won't even be the first QB taken off the board. It's almost never the guy everyone pinned the year prior. I can only think of two guys, Luck and Winston, to actually remain at the mountain top.
I'm going to go throw out a name not said yet, K.J. Jefferson.

Thoughts on Riley Leonard? I'm a Duke fan and have been so impressed with his athleticism and scrambling ability, and to me he throws a nice ball. But I'm also the farthest thing from a scout so I have no idea where he projects right now.

Stacked looking QB class. I'd like to think one of the big reasons the position was wisely passed on in 2023.

I think we should wait and see a more complete body of work.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Pretty much every mock has us picking top 5 and selecting Drake Maye. Even if we don’t be up picking that high it will be a great year to trade up for the QBOTF.
If Wirfs/Godeke starting OTs don’t work out I can also see us going Tackle. Probably a good time to get another MLB since Lavonte May be done and White moving on. Maybe Safety.
Should be interesting to look back in a year.

I really, really wanted Trent Simpson in the 3rd. It would have been planning ahead, even if we're stuck with White long term.
Instead, the Ravens took him, will use him situationally behind Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen for a year, and then let Queen walk in a season.

I think Jacksonville got the better deal with Yasir Abdullah in the 5th round. I guess we'll see.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
If we do end up with a top pick I truly hope we go in on Marvin Harrison Jr. You don't pass on that.
Then you can take your QB gamble on the fallers of the draft and see if you can nab yourself a Rodgers or Lamar, or Levis or Hooker.

It’ll be Caleb Williams

Atlanta was already one of the best rushing teams in the league. It’s tough to improve much on 4.8 ypc and 160 yards per game. They did the NFC South a giant favor using the 8th pick on a RB.Phantom wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 3:35 pmI think Atlanta will be fine, they just draft a really good running back from TexasSelmon Rules wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 2:47 pm

Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Agreed. They desperately needed an impact defender. They desperately needed to improve their OL. Instead, for the third year in a row, they used a top 10 pick on a skill position guy.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 9:41 amAtlanta was already one of the best rushing teams in the league. Put it like this:
If Bijan Robinson gave them 354-1730-11, while catching 37-261-1, they should be thrilled, right? 2,000 total yards, gaudy YPC, 12 TDs.
That's what they got from Allgeier and Patterson last year. Yeah, I know it's not A to B. I know that Robinson's presence will change the complexion of defenses. And I know he'll probably be more of a weapon in the pass game than those two...
But by enough to justify the 8th pick in the draft? When they could have drafted Jalen Carter or Peter Skoronski? Or probably traded back, for that matter?
Madness.

I'm cautiously optimistic on them, at least as a 6-7 win type team. It sounds like Murray will be ready for opening day, and I'm excited to see him in an actual NFL offense. At the same time, I would not be shocked if they win like 2 games.Selmon Rules wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 5:25 pmI don't see Arizona being much, if any, better than last year either.

Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Kyler is every bit the false savior he's been made out to be and strikes me as a guy who is destined for re-injury off shoddy rehab. I don't know what Petzing has done to warrant an OC position (must be those valuable high school snaps). Ganon doesn't have nearly the talent on defense that he did in Philly and unless his DC is a wunderkind, looks like he'll be stretched very thin doing a lot of lifting.
Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
It's a hell of a lot more reasonable right now to suggest Murray still has room to improve than it is Mayfield. Murray has spent his entire career playing for one overmatched coach, in one very, very bad system. If I were a Cardinals fan, I'd feel optimistic about seeing him playing in any other scheme than that one.Doctor wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 1:59 pm Kyler is every bit the false savior he's been made out to be and strikes me as a guy who is destined for re-injury off shoddy rehab. Re: ***Official 2024 Draft Thread!!***
Don't be silly. There's no reason to target Caleb Williams when like 5 or 6 teams in NFL history won a Superbowl with an average quarterback. We should be looking for our own Nick Foles or Trent Dilfer in free agency.
