Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Regardless, this doesn’t even move the spread a quarter of a point.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
I know it isn't. Just like me pointing out that no one wanted to pay $2.6mil for a "great" player isn't egg on my face either. @Cheb gets bored sometimes and has to have a dick measuring contest with me when things are slow.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 6:52 amThat’s not egg on his face.Cheb wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 8:39 pm
Ryan Neal was a restricted free agent with the Seahawks until yesterday, when they rescinded his tender because they had signing Julian Love during free agency to be their third safety, making Neal expendable. Not sure why they waited to rescind that tender until yesterday, but he's been a "regular" free agent for less than 24 hours.
A quick Google search and three minutes of reading would've saved that egg from landing on your face, but here we are.

Ryan Neal had an 85.6 pff grade last season making the PFF All-pro 1st team. He received 3 votes for all-pro finishing 6th in voting. It might have been an outlier season but the Seahawks fans seem to love him. It seems like an upgrade over Mike Edwards.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
But he's got no name recognition with casuals.
Trash.
Trash.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Make me proud Bucs - it's time to grow our own experience!
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
He has name recognition with the Seahawks, who could have kept him for pennies on the dollar as an RFA but chose to pay someone else 2/12 to take his job.
I guess they should have talked to PFF.

I call 'em like I see them.
Ryan Neal might be a solid addition. Like 100% of the other people here, I barely know him or his game.
Doctor's schtick like he's going to answer our prayers or even just change our draft strategy is cringy. When the team that knows a guy best doesn't even pay him as an RFA, he's not that guy. We're paying him the vet minimum plus a couple hundred grand guaranteed.

Since when is Seattle the smartest kid in the room?
Shaq? Ryan? Brady? Suh? AB?

They could have kept him for pennies and said no. Not even, "stay and compete" but no, we're better off without you.
It doesn't mean he can't contribute, but this attitude like we pulled off a coup is ridiculous.

Since when is Whitehead or Edwards comps a coup?
Also, how many all-pro votes our other guys get?

Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Dude didn't even start. He played 61% of the Seahawks snaps. 44 tackles and 1 pick on the season.
His team tendered him at the lowest level. Anyone could have signed him for zero compensation. Nobody did. Then they didn't even want to give him that minimum salary.
Calm. down. That's all I'm saying. I'm sure he'll be a useful player. When you say shit about him being here changing our draft strategy, or comparing him to Shaq Barrett in any way, you sound ridiculous.

Licht has always made moves like this in FA. Brings in guys who can play a little in case they can't fill the particular position in the draft. I don't think it changes the strategy other than, if it comes down to two guys at different positions with an equal grade, maybe they can forego the safety for the other position for a few rounds.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
I still think we get a safety on Day 2, but good to have some competition. Even if he’s just a Mike Edwards level player, we needed someone on the roster.

Bowles loves his safeties. Branch.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
On day 2 I still wouldnt do Branch.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Odd thing to hope for 18 teams to think a safety wasnt good enough.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
We'd be lucky to land Branch. We'd have the best secondary in the NFL.
Mary Jane, I couldn't help but notice you're not answering, how many all-pro votes our other guys get?

I think so. We're top 9 for two of last three years, never lower than 13. Top 5 take aways 4 of 5 years. And that's without always being on or healthy.
When we peak this defense can eat. It just needs a spark up front.

I think Barrett will start the season on IR.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
As it stands right now, who are our top two for NB?

From a torn achilles in October? What indication do you have that he won't be ready?

Likely. The data for the injury is just not great. I'm holding out for modern signs to replicate a Suggs like return, but that's a lot of hopium even for me. The reality was Shaq was a fantastic player and signing. Had he not gotten hurt he could be a ROH guy. But quite frankly the truth of the NFL is sometimes one of injury and stories not lived. It's unfortunate.
But hey, modern science, blah blah blah, I just hope he gets healthy.

I'm hopeful that becoming a younger team turns out to be just a different team with optimism, plenty of optimism.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
We may become the NFL's youngest team.
From one of the oldest to one of the youngest.
It's time to go to work and teach those youngsters.

So now Devin wants to be traded. I’m guessing it’s a money problem and this is exactly why I wanted us to get ahead of it and trade him earlier in the offseason. Now we might get back less value since he’s told Jenna Laine he doesn’t wanna be here.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Aha
Bucs’ Pro Bowl LB Devin White has in fact requested a trade, as @JennaLaineESPN reported. Bucs do not want to trade him, but White wants to be traded as he is coming up on his fifth-year option.
