The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
The Saints have received permission to meet with Raiders’ QB Derek Carr and plan to do so Wednesday, per @neworleansfootball.
Carr, 31, has a no-trade clause in his contract, so he’s able to meet with interested teams before a deal is finalized.
Carr said this past weekend that he will not extend the February 15th deadline in his contract that triggers $40.4M in future guaranteed money.
This applies pressure on the Raiders to complete a trade before then or release him outright.

At least we're not stupid enough to be considering a trade for Carr when he's going to be cut in a week regardless.Phantom wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 10:52 pmThe Saints have received permission to meet with Raiders’ QB Derek Carr and plan to do so Wednesday, per @neworleansfootball.

Not that signing Carr is a bad thing, but Licht at least realizes that trading for him is retarded given the context.

Carr is going to go where he wants to go. Makes more sense for him to wait and veto any trade, but no reason not to meet with interested teams.
He’ll get way more than $40M guaranteed on the open market.

2 winning seasons in nine years, seems like a waste to me. I said the moment he got big money his clock was ticking.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 6:22 am Carr is going to go where he wants to go. The Raiders have been a mess. I made the comparison to Stafford in another thread. He’d never won anything either. I think the Lions made the playoffs once with him? Carr may not be as good as him, but he could put a team with a great existing roster over the top.mdb1958 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 6:36 am2 winning seasons in nine years, seems like a waste to me. Adams had a monster season. Waller/Renfrow were in and out of the lineup all year. Honestly, I think the relationship with the coach must have soured.
I’m not sure where it was (maybe here), but I read that he’d call players out on bad tape during film sessions. Carr took exception.

Sounds like Carr is heading to Nola.

Carr needs a change of scenery (even though you could argue going from Oakland to Las Vegas is just that). But he’s spinning on the hamster wheel with the Raiders organization. The best it got was 2016 when he got injured right before the playoffs. He’s still young enough, just 31, that he can salvage his career but it won’t happen with the Raiders.

McDaniels has proven himself to be a bad HC whose teams play below their expectations.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 8:40 am Adams had a monster season. Waller/Renfrow were in and out of the lineup all year. Honestly, I think the relationship with the coach must have soured.

Remember Jake Plummer?

Levels to this game.
Said he felt like a rookie in terms of all the new things he learned when he got to SF. Specifically praised the way the 49ers string plays together, how certain plays set up others, etc.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Funny how when it's a vid of our players in awe of Bowles the response is WeLl WhAt Do YuO ExPeCt ThEm To SaY?
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
One is corroborated by dozens of other coaches and professionals and the football world at large. The other is a bum.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
That's a bit unfair. Sure, Bowles is a champion and Kyle was on the wrong side of 28-3 Super Bowl collapse, but that doesn't make him a bum. He's actually been a really good coach for SF. Sure, he's been absolutely awful and fixing QB, choosing to go with Jimmy over Brady (trggered over a supposed joke Brady made about the SB), and then going all on Trey Lance. But to be fair QB is hard to get right.

Agree it is hard to get right. It’s hard enough as it is. Kyle’s problem is he makes it harder than it should be. Conventional wisdom tells me that if im spending 3 1st round picks on a QB, he’s my QB no question. You don’t make the situation cloudy by sticking to the guy you’re trying to replace and then bringing him back as your backup. That it boiled over is no surprise to me at all.Doctor wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 1:03 pm That's a bit unfair. Aren't there rumors that Kyle didn't even want Lance to begin with? I wonder if there's some internal power struggle between lynch and Kyle over the QB situation.King Bootz wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 3:34 pmAgree it is hard to get right. It’s hard enough as it is. Because honestly Mac Jones would've been a better fit for them and they wouldn't have had to trade up to get him as I seem to remember the 9ers having like the 11th pick or something close to that.
It does seem weird that there's always a question mark around QB despite San Fran being perennial contenders.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Maybe but Kyle pretty much squashed those rumors. The story goes he had to be sold on Lance and the main person to sell him was Mike McDaniel. You see the version of this passing game Miami is running? That’s what Kyle is aiming for and Lance can stretch the field in a way Jimmy or Brock can’t. He’s also an extremely gifted runner and for whatever reason Kyle tried to utilize that aspect of his game more than his arm. That’s what got him hurt.BucsNBills wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 6:34 pmAren't there rumors that Kyle didn't even want Lance to begin with? From everything I've read John Lynch is a very empowering GM, similar to our Licht. He understands the game of football and tries to really give the coaches all the right ingredients for what they are cooking. There was an interview where they were coming from I think Mac Jones proday but Kyle was instead looking and gaga-ing over Lance tape.

Welcome back home?
The Texans are interviewing former Cardinals’ HC Kliff Kingsbury for their offensive coordinator job.

I actually like that

I agree. It means we won't be tempted to hire him.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
I love how much every off season fans want the cutting edge offense of the week and how quickly it gets thrown in the bin and discarded.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
I love how your only contributions are “the team is great and fans are stupid.”
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Off-Season Thread
Team needs a lot of work. Fans are usually stupid, yes. Myself included.

In the unlikely event that he does retire, you'd think Bienemy would be the one to naturally take over.
